Samsung’s UI has come a long way since its Touchwiz days. While Touchwiz on the Galaxy S3, S4 and S5 was universally hated for being slow and being filled with bloatware, Samsung has made huge strides with its UI and UX starting with the Galaxy S6. With the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung’s Experience skin has probably reached the point where it offers the perfect mix of ease of use, features and customization options.
The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are Google’s latest and greatest smartphones. Similar to their predecessors, both phones feature a unibody aluminium design with a special coating on top which gives them a plastic-like feel.
The OnePlus 5T is the ‘T’ successor to the OnePlus 5 with some modest improvements and upgrades thrown in. This primarily includes a 6-inch 18:9 aspect ratio FHD+ display and an improved dual-camera setup at the rear.
With the OnePlus 5T slated to go on sale from tomorrow, the first batch of reviews for the handset are out. Similar to the OnePlus 5, the 5T is being praised unanimously for its performance, display, build quality, and the overall value for money it packs.
Like the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy Note 8 is a beautiful piece of technology featuring an aluminium chassis sandwiched by Gorilla Glass panels at the front and rear. That also makes the Note 8 as fragile as the Galaxy S8 and other smartphones which feature a glass back. After all, glass is glass and it will crack when dropped. This means that using a case on the Galaxy Note 8 is almost a compulsion. Unless of course, you don’t mind paying for an expensive screen or rear glass panel replacement.
Google is all set to unveil its second-generation Pixel handsets at its Made By Google event on October 4. The first generation Pixel handsets might not have exactly set the sales chart on fire but they did set a new benchmark with their excellent camera and real-life performance.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 is set to hit the retail stores on September 11 in the US but the first batch of reviews of the handsets have already made it to the internet.
The OnePlus 5 went on sale late last month in most markets of the world. While the handset has launched to mixed reviews, that has not stopped it from selling like hot cakes in India and certain parts of Europe. Like with every other smartphone, you need to use a case to protect the OnePlus 5 from dents and dings.
Samsung has consistently worked in recent years to improve the user experience and look of its UI. With the Galaxy S8, the company once again debuted a new UI bidding adieu to TouchWiz in the process and introducing Samsung Experience. As with previous versions of Samsung’s skin, Samsung Experience UI on the Galaxy S8 is feature packed and even comes with a theme manager which Samsung had first debuted with the Galaxy S6.
Most of the Android flagships for 2017 have now been announced and (in most cases) reviewed. It’s true that there’s going to be a new Galaxy Note in a couple of months and some new Pixels, but a lot of what we’re expecting is now here. Begging the question of which is the best phone. But don’t worry if you can’t afford a flagship, for I’m going to pick the best in the mid-range and at the budget end of the spectrum too. Something for everyone!
