According to different sources, winners of the Smash the Past competition, who have agreed to either smash their current smartphone or donate it to charity in exchange for a OnePlus One for $1, have started receiving their units with a small addition and two important omissions.

The OnePlus One is sold through a very confusing invite system. The company has now tried to simplify some of these clauses and terms in a detailed post on its forum. This tells us that the initial batch of invites will be sent out this month to existing owners of the smartphone who can then send more invites to other people.

For a relatively small company, the folks over at OnePlus have managed to create quite a hype around their product. While their handset — the OnePlus One — lived up to the hype, its availability schedule has been nothing short of a disappointment with “general availability” of the 64GB version planned only for late June. That changes today as the company announced that it will be re-scheduling its production cycle after looking at the demand for the 64GB version.

But the company doesn’t seem to be producing the smartphone in enough quantities, not as of now at least. According to a post on the OnePlus forum, the manufacturer only has about 100 units of the 16GB Silk White models ready at this point, and these will be provided to the contest winners of the unpopular Smash promotion.
