Typing is probably in the top two things you do the most on your phone (the other being reading). With our lives being surrounded by chat apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, Slack and the always present email, we end up typing a lot. But we don’t really think about it (just like we don’t think about the mattress we sleep on or the chair we work on, even though it’s a significant part of our life).

Gboard was first released on iOS, almost a year back. And it was by far the best third party keyboard there (it’s the default keyboard on my iPhone). But the move left Android users understandably pissed. Here’s Google, releasing an awesome, useful app not on Android, but on iOS. What universe is this?
OnePlus 3T is an uncommon phone from an unconventional company. A mid-season replacement, it’s pretty much like the phone it replaces. The exterior is same as the OnePlus 3, except the color change. And internal bumps are pretty minor. But one thing is clear – at $440, this is still the best phone in around $400 price range. It’s got Pixel level specs and performance at half the price and that’s commendable. It is a good phone.
OnePlus 3 (and now the 3T) are among those rare Android phones that have a physical mute switch. It might not sound like a big deal but it’s a huge help. Putting your hand in your pocket, finding the slider, and shifting it, solely based on the feel thereby turning your phone silent mode is, well, a pure joy.
Against all odds, OnePlus actually met their own deadline for the Android 7.0 Nougat update, with the update for both OnePlus 3 and 3T going live just hours before the deadline – 1st Jan 2017. And this is a stable release. And in true OnePlus spirit, it mostly steers close to the stock Android, with a bit of tweaking here and there.
Netflix is finally putting an end to workarounds and is officially introducing offline playback feature for its mobile apps including the Android app for both mobile phones and tablets. So you’ll now be able to binge watch your favorite show during your long commute or when you’re on a vacation, far away from stable Wi-Fi. The feature isn’t available for every movie and TV show out there (Disney content is missing), but there’s still a lot to be consumed offline.
India’s move to demonetize and invalidate Rs 500 and 1000 notes was sudden. And it has repercussions that are frankly out of scope for our tech site. But interestingly, this move has thrust upon a uniquely diverse country to pursue an idea – going cashless. Of course, we’re far from actualising it but we’re already seeing street vendors and auto drivers accept Paytm.
There’s no shortage of wallpaper apps on Android. There’s a hotbed of wallpaper apps that are more than happy to throw millions (really) of wallpapers at your face. But that’s quantity, not quality. What you really want on the beautiful display of your Android device, is quality wallpapers. And that’s what we’re here for today.
As of today, you no longer need to jump through hoops or install the beta version to make WhatsApp video calls. In the latest update released yesterday, WhatsApp has finally released the video calling feature to all of its 1 billion+ users across Android, iOS and Windows Phone. On Android, you’ll need to be running Android 4.1 and above to be able to use the feature. Anyone you want to call must also have the latest WhatsApp update installed.
At this point, I don’t need to sell you on just how much of a difference a really good wallpaper makes to your homescreen. If you’re the kind of person who’s dedicated to customizing and optimizing the homescreen so it works best for you (and looks the coolest to you), you already use launchers and icon packs. And finding awesome wallpapers that go along with it can be a chore (and no one wants to swipe through those 50 million wallpaper collection apps). Well, not with the apps we’ve got listed below.
