The Samsung Galaxy S10 is packed to the brim with features. Some of these features are highlighted aggressively by Samsung via marketing, while others are hidden. One such hidden feature on the Galaxy S10 is support for FM Radio. In this day and age of music streaming, if you still love listening to FM radio then support for it on the Galaxy S10 should make you happy.
There’s only one catch here. Despite the Galaxy S10 supporting FM radio, Samsung does not include an app on the handset that can actually take advantage of the FM radio hardware. This means right out of the box despite the Galaxy S10 having an FM radio, you cannot use it. In some parts of the world like China and Hong Kong where FM radio is presumably still popular, Samsung includes an app for FM radio. But in other parts of the world, this app is missing from the Galaxy S10.
Worry not though, you can use an app like Next Radio to enjoy listening to FM radio on your Galaxy S10. The app is capable of taking advantage of the hidden FM radio hardware on the Galaxy S10 series. Do note that this app only works on the Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy S10 that is sold in the United States, Hong Kong, and other parts of the world. Most Exynos variants of the Galaxy S10 already ship with an FM radio app pre-installed.
Additionally, to listen to FM radio on your Galaxy S10, you must first connect wired headphones/earphones to it. This is because the wired earphones act as an FM radio antenna and without it, there’s no way you can listen to FM radio on your Galaxy S10. Lastly, note that the quality of FM radio is simply not going to be as good as music stored locally on your phone or when streamed from Spotify, Apple Music, or any other music streaming service.
Do you still listen to FM radio? Or have you given up on it in favor of Spotify or Apple Music?
