If you are a movie buff who likes to watch films on their phone, well, most devices don’t really suit the perfect viewing experience. But the Xperia XA3 from Sony might.
The notch is certainly a culprit of this, but so are standard aspect ratios. A lot of devices feature an 18:9 aspect ratio, and some with numbers around there (like a 19.5:9 aspect ratio from LG). But it looks like Sony wants to get even taller, and offer up an even better cinematic experience on a phone. The company’s next handset is allegedly the “Xperia XA3”, and it will feature an aspect ratio of 21:9.
That aspect ratio is right in line with most major film releases. That means viewing a movie on the Xperia XA3 would remove the black bars on the top, bottom, or sides of the display. You would get to see the movie how the director intended without any tradeoffs. Albeit it would be on a smartphone.
The Xperia XA3’s display is said to measure in at 5.9 inches, and feature a “CinemaWide” marketing gimmick. What that means beyond the aspect ratio remains to be seen. The other rumored features include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, and a 3500mAh battery. There are a pair of cameras on the back, and a single front-facing camera.
What do you think of the Xperia XA3’s design, specifically that display? We will likely see Sony officially announce the handset at this year’s Mobile World Congress event later this month.
