A growing number of OnePlus 3/3T and OnePlus 5/5T owners are complaining about serious battery woes with their device after updating their handset to OxygenOS 5.1.6/8.
The relatively minor OxygenOS update was rolled out with the aim of fixing bugs and updating the security patch on the handsets to a slightly newer build. However, it seems to have ended up introducing a major battery draining bug as OnePlus forums are now filled with complaints from OnePlus 3/5 owners about poor battery life.
Most owners have seen the battery life on their phone reduce by over 50 percent despite no major change in their daily routine. In some cases, the idle drain is so high that most devices are running out of battery by the middle of the day wherein previously they’d easily last through a day. The issue has frustrated a lot of OnePlus 3/5 owners who have poured in their anger over at OnePlus support forums.
While some OnePlus 6 owners are also reporting about excessive battery drain post the latest OxygenOS update, the issue seems to primarily affect OnePlus 3/3T and OnePlus 5/5T owners. OnePlus is yet to officially acknowledge the issue but given the number of complaints, it is clear that something is definitely wrong with the latest OxygenOS update. The company is most probably already working on a fix and is trying to get it out of the door as soon as possible.
OnePlus does seem to have a habit of rolling out extremely buggy software updates for its devices. The company has in the past rolled out and then pulled OxygenOS updates for its devices due to a large number of bugs. It looks like the company needs to step up its QA process to ensure that it is not rolling out so many buggy updates for its devices.
