Google Will Unveil New Chromebook Pixel, Mini Google Home Later This Year

A new report from Android Police claims that Google will be unveiling a new Pixel-branded Chromebook and a smaller Google Home smart speaker at a hardware event later this year. The company will also be unveiling its two new Pixel handsets at the same event.

Google had last launched a Pixel-branded Chromebook in 2015 dubbed the Chromebook Pixel. The device was praised for its hardware design and performance but did not exactly set the sales chart on fire.

As of now, the specs of Google’s new Pixel Chromebook are unclear. It is possible that it could be based on Project Biston, a Microsoft Surface/MacBook competitor from Apple featuring up to 16GB RAM, 32/128GB of storage, and a 12.3-inch display. Project Biston was originally intended to run Androdmeda, a hybrid OS born from the merger of ChromeOS and Android but those plans were ditched soon after.

Then, there’s also the smaller Google Home. While its price point is not confirmed, it should be a fair deal cheaper than the existing Google Home model that Google sells for $129. The smaller Google Home will allow Google to compete with Amazon’s Echo Dot which costs only $49.99.

We should see Google unveil the new mini Google Home and its new Chromebook Pixel alongside the new Pixel handsets at a hardware event that should take place in late September or October.
