OnePlus today unveiled their much leaked and relatively less hyped than its predecessors: the OnePlus 3. Redone from the ground up, the OnePlus 3 features a unibody aluminium body that looks very premium and sleek. The redesign also sees the company do away with their Sandstone finish at the back.
The 7.35mm thin handset continues to sport a 5.5-inch 1080p display, but this time around it’s an AMOLED display — OnePlus calls it ‘Optic AMOLED’ for marketing purposes. This means great contrast levels and oversaturated colors to make it more attractive. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Beneath the display are the capacitive navigation buttons, with the home button in the middle also featuring an integrated fingerprint scanner.
Like the OnePlus 3, there is an Alert Slider located on the left edge of the handset that allows you to quickly switch between different notification priorities.
Inside the OnePlus 3 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 2.15GHz and an Adreno 530 GPU. The handset also boasts of 6GB RAM and 64GB of speedy UFS 2.0 storage.
Other notable specs of the handset include LTE support, dual-SIM connectivity, USB Type-C port, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 4.2.
The rear of the OnePlus 3 houses a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor with an F/2.0 aperture. It also features PDAF, OIS, and EIS. It is capable of recording videos in up to 4K resolution, and can also save photos in RAW format. The 8MP shooter in the front uses Sony’s IMX179 sensor with 1.4um large pixels and an f/2.0 aperture.
The OnePlus 3 runs on OnePlus’ own OxygenOS, which is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It comes with features like screen-off gestures, customisable navigation buttons, Shelf for quick access to your favorite apps and contacts, and more. Like with previous OnePlus handset, OxygenOS is free from any bloatware.
Lastly, the OnePlus 3 packs in a non-removable 3,000mAh battery. It features OnePlus’ own Dash Charge technology that is capable of charging the handset to 60% in only 30 minutes.
OnePlus 3 will be available in two colors: Graphite and Soft Gold. It will be available for purchase without any invite starting from later today. The handset has been priced at $400 in the United States and €400 in Europe. You need to purchase the phone through the OnePlus Loop VR app.
