Oppo R7s Gets a Near-Stock Marshmallow ROM via Project Spectrum

Oppo R7 Plus

Oppo today expanded its Project Spectrum beta to the R7s to bring a near-stock build of Android to the handset. Project Spectrum is an “official alternative” from the Chinese smartphone maker for its own ColorOS.

Until now, devices supported under Project Spectrum include the Find 7, R5, and R7g. The company will also release a Marshmallow-based ROM under Project Spectrum for the R7 Plus on Friday, May 13.

The Project Spectrum ROM is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and brings with it all the goodies introduced by Google like Doze, App Standby, Permission manager, and Google Now on Tap. The ROM also packs some of the key features from ColorOS, including customisable screen-off gestures, VOOC Flash Charge support, Oppo’s own camera app, and more.

Since this ROM is an official release from Oppo, the warranty of your handset will not be affected if you install it on your handset. If you purchased the phone from a carrier though, Oppo recommends you check their warranty policy first.

By offering a near-stock build of Marshmallow to the R7s, Oppo is offering more options to its consumers, which is always welcome. After all, not everyone is bound to like Oppo’s ColorOS.
