Nexus 5 display’s gamma configuration can now be tweaked; Brings AMOLED like saturation

At first glance, the Nexus 5 display might seem a bit underwhelming compared to the competition. This is especially true if you are coming from an Android device that uses an AMOLED screen. However, the truth is that the Nexus 5 display is among the best, when it comes to color rendering, in the world of mobile displays.

Sadly, our eyes have become so used to oversaturated that when a display shows the accurate colors, we find it underwhelming. Anyways, being a Nexus device, it was just a matter of time before a kernel developer managed to reverse engineer the Nexus 5 display’s gamma configuration.

Stepping up his game is Faux123, who has managed to reverse engineer the gamma display configuration of the Nexus 5. He has also released a free app that allow users to play around with the gamma configuration of the Nexus 5 display. By using the free app, Nexus 5 owners can tweak the gamma configuration on their device to get AMOLED like saturation, or iPhone 5s like color accuracy.

Tweaking the gamma values of your Nexus 5 display will, however, require a custom kernel. All the popular kernels developers have already updated their kernel to add support for this feature though. Head over to this XDA thread  for more information.
