IDC: Samsung sold more phones in Nokia-land than Nokia did for the first time in Q1 2013

Finland is Nokia. Nokia is Finland. I’ve traveled to quite a few number of countries this year, and the only place where I see Lumia phones is this chunk of ice that I call home. According to the Finnish business publication Taloussanomat, who references data from IDC, Q1 2013 was the first quarter where mobile phones from the South Korean handset maker Samsung outsold those designed in Espoo. If that’s not alarming, I don’t know what is.

Breaking things down even further, roughly 587,000 were sold in Finland during the first three months of the year, with 73% of them being smartphones. Samsung took 36% of the phone market (both smart and dumb), while Nokia dropped to 33%. Meanwhile, Apple has 14% of the market, which is something I wouldn’t have expected given how many iPhones I see in people’s hands around town, but then again Q1 isn’t when people typically buy iPhones anyway. Everyone knows the next iPhone is just a few short months away.

Mr. Elop: Can you please switch to Android now?

Read the f–ing source article… The latter image in the article shows that Nokia has been selling less phones than Samsung since 3Q/2012, but in 1Q/2013 the trend changed; Samsung sold less phones compared to the previous quarter, Nokia sold more.

And yes, in that exact picture you can see how Samsung’s sales started to slow down and Nokia’s sales go up. (And to prevent any misunderstanding; yes, Samsung still sold more phones than Nokia. But the trend has changed.)

So no, Samsung didn’t sell more phones in Finland than Nokia _for the first time_ in 1Q. It’s been doing so for a good while now. But the title of the article is misleading. It should be something like “Nokia closing the gap against Samsung in Finland”.

No, you are totally wrong. Samsung making even bigger sales in Finland and Nokia go down and slowing because of M$.

Silly and weak M$ PR man.

Dude, are you seriously f—ing deluded? There’s the data I referenced in the link you just posted. 😀 Nokia went up in the last quarter, opposite to Samsung.

            Learn to read.

“Samsung sold between January and March for the first time in Finland more phones than Nokia.” (via Google Translate)

So you read data but not first sentence???

            And here is Your data:
“At that time, Nokia’s smartphone sales dropped by 95 000 units, compared to April-June was still 174 000 smart phone.” (again using Google Translate).

            See that DROPPED word?

Ok Now I see that one comment was deleted. So maybe You had some separate data. Repost it again. This time without Your comment, ok?
