Xiaomi is now the only OEM to offer an infrared blaster on all its budget and mid-range devices. Apart from the Mi Mix 2, all smartphones launched by Xiaomi in the last year in India feature a handy IR blaster. The company’s latest handset, the Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite, also feature an infrared blaster at the top.
Riding high on the success of the Redmi 4, Redmi Note 4, and the Mi A1, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite in India. The handsets are aimed to take advantage of Xiaomi’s aggressive offline retail expansion in recent times and are primarily targeted at selfie lovers and tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
After initially being unveiled last week, the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite went on sale in India today through Amazon India and Mi.com. Both handsets will also be making their way to offline stores and Mi Home stores across the country.
Last week, Xiaomi today launched a new series of smartphones with the Redmi Y1 being the first handset to launch under it. The Redmi Y1 is essentially a rebranded Redmi Prime 5A which Xiaomi is launching under a new name in the country to address the selfie-centric market.
Alongside the Redmi Y1, Xiaomi also launched the Y1 Lite — a ‘lighter’ version of the Redmi Y1 with a lower price tag. Despite the lower price tag, the Y1 Lite comes with a 5.5-inch HD display which is a rarity for smartphones in this price range.
