Frustrated with the Virtual Assistants? Experts Blame It on Lack of Improvement in Microphone Technology
Poor Virtual Assistants performance is placing an increasing pressure on the quality of microphones used in devices. Peter Cooney, an analyst at SAR Insight & Consulting says that “there is an arms race” in the market for microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) microphones. Marwan Boustany, an analyst with research firm IHS Markit adds that “microphone performance has not really improved that much”.
Last year, Google had released Now on Tap, a quick search and information tool that was easily available at your fingertips; however, it has not been as big a success as Google would like it to be. With the latest update, Google has now added more features that would allow one to select a word or phrase and look it up as well as search by image.
“OK, Google” is a one-stop voice command for a wide assortment of options, and now the feature has just been extended even more thanks to new third-party functionality support.
Google has just unveiled ‘Now on Tap’ feature for Google Now. The feature will only be available to devices running Android M, which will be released later this year.
