Samsung has just unveiled a limited edition variant of the Galaxy Note 8 to commemorate the 2018 Winter Olympics. Known simply as the “PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition”, this variant will come with exclusive packaging highlighting the games. The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in the PyeongChang County of South Korea, with a number of leading countries expected to participate in the event.
The handset looks pretty much the same as the standard Galaxy Note 8 from the front, although the back glass panel is colored in white to “celebrate the winter theme”. Naturally, the phone will come with exclusive wallpapers and UI schemes to make it stand out from the standard Galaxy Note 8.
Samsung has also announced that it will distribute this limited edition variant to paralympians participating in the event. The company has been a World Paralympic Partner since the 2010 Vancouver games, and is continuing its partnership with IOC going forward.
“Throughout our 20-year legacy as an Olympic partner, Samsung has showcased our support of the Olympic Movement by helping spread the Olympic Spirit and enhance connections through our latest technological innovations and immersive experiences,” said Younghee Lee, CMO and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics. “We’re proud to provide the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition to all athletes in an effort to help them to stay connected, capture and share one of the most memorable moments of their lives.”
The games will be held between 9th and 25th of February 2018. The company hasn’t announced the pricing or availability details for this phone as of yet, but we’re guessing this particular variant will be pretty hard to come by. It’s also likely that the device will remain a South Korean exclusive.
The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition will have the same internal hardware as the standard Galaxy Note 8, which includes the 6.3-inch 2960 x 1440 resolution Super AMOLED “Infinity Display”, the octa-core Snapdragon 835 chipset, along with dual 12MP cameras on the back.
