Ahead of Google’s Made by Google event on October 4 where it will be unveiling its second-generation Pixel handsets, prolific leaker @evleaks has posted high-resolution press renders of the devices.
The press renders confirm that the Pixel 2 will feature a design similar to the existing Pixel with huge top and bottom bezels. The handset will also continue to feature a 5-inch Full HD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio display. While the huge bezels surrounding the Pixel 2’s display is going to disappoint a many, Google is at least making up for it by including front-facing speakers on the handset.
As for the Pixel 2 XL, the press renders show the device featuring smaller bezels than the Pixel XL, though they are still bigger than the likes of what is found on the Galaxy S8, Note 8, and LG V30. The handset will feature a 6-inch QHD+ OLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The slightly bigger bezels do allow Google to include front-facing speakers on the bigger Pixel as well.
Other specs of both handsets remain the same: a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64/128GB storage, and a 12MP rear shooter. Like their predecessors, the new Pixels are going to be exorbitantly expensive. The smaller Pixel will start at $649, with the 128GB variant being priced at $749. As for the Pixel 2 XL, it will be priced at $849 and $949, respectively.
The press renders also show off the redesigned home screen on the new Pixel handsets which include the Google search bar moving to the bottom of the screen and a new Calendar/Clock widget at the top.
Google will be releasing the new Pixel handsets in a staged manner. The smaller Pixel 2 will first go on sale from October 19, with the bigger Pixel 2 XL being available from November 15. Pre-orders for both handsets will start soon after Google’s event though.
What do you think about the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL based on the leaked press renders? While the bigger Pixel 2 XL does look impressive, I am not sure if it will be good enough to justify its high price tag.
