Android 8.0 Oreo OTA Update Rolling out for Pixel Devices Enrolled into Beta Program; Installation Failing For Some

In its official post today announcing the release of Android 8.0 Oreo, Google said that the final build of the OS for the Pixel and nexus 5X/6P is in final stages of carrier testing and should start rolling out soon. To the surprise of most Pixel owners on Android beta program and running the latest Developer Preview of Android Oreo, a 55-65MB OTA update to the final build of OS is already available.

Before you get too excited about installing the update, most users are reporting of anĀ ‘Installation Problem’ error popping up after the download completes. It unclear as to why this error is showing up. It is possible that the rollout of the OTA update was an error from Google’s side or the company just messed up the rollout from its part.

If early forum reports are anything to go by, it looks like Google is rolling out multiple variants of the final OTA build. While the 55-65MB one is failing, a 38.2MB OTA update that has shown up for selected Pixel owners ended up installing just fine on their devices.

Despite the Installation Error bug coming up, if you want to get the final build of Android 8.0 Oreo on your Pixel device, enrolling into the Android beta program seems to be the fastest way of doing so right now.
