Samsung has ‘no Plans’ to Launch Another Android Wear Product

Back in 2014, Samsung launched the Gear Live — the company’s first attempt at launching an Android Wear-based smartwatch.

Turns out, that’d be the company’s only one, too. Fast Company is reporting that Samsung has made an ultimate decision regarding its future scope of including Android Wear, and it’s pretty simple: The company doesn’t have any plans to launch an Android Wear product. That includes the oft-leaked Gear Fit 2, which should be announced soon.

According to an executive at Samsung, the company’s proprietary software, Tizen OS, is far more battery efficient than what Android Wear can offer. As a result, Samsung has been using Tizen for its wearable products ever since, and Tizen looks to be the go-to option for the company moving forward. Even for its refrigerators.

It’s not all that surprising a move, of course, considering Tizen is Samsung’s own software, but for anyone that has been hoping to see a Samsung-branded wearable launch with Android Wear 2.0, that doesn’t appear to be in the cards.
