Samsung today announced that its mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, has reached a global milestone of “about” five million registered users who have processed over 500 million dollars in transactions within the first six months of their launch in South Korea and the United States.
The Korean company also notes that the service is showing a strong adoption rate in these countries, where the payment service supports more than 70 combined major and regional banks.
Considering that Samsung Pay is only available on high-end flagship devices from Samsung like the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+, it is quite commendable that the service is being used by well over 5 million users in Korea and United States who have done transactions totalling over 500 million dollars.
In addition to this, Samsung also announced its expansion plans for Samsung Pay, The company will be bringing Samsung Pay to China in March, which will be followed by Australia, Brazil, Singapore, Spain, Canada and the U.K. later this year.
The company is also partnering with many regional card providers in South Korea to provide online payment services. This includes Lotte Card, Hana Card, BC Card, Samsung Card and more.
Beside using NFC, Samsung Pay also works with traditional MST payment terminals, which gives it a huge advantage over other similar payment services like Apple Pay.
