Officially, April Fools’ Day is on April 1, but it looks like Samsung is jumping on the bandwagon a bit early this year.
Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Blade edge, which the company calls “the world’s first smart knife.” It’s not really a knife, though, and it’s not really smart, insofar that it’s a device that can connect to your smartphone to relay some important information to you while you’re in the kitchen. No, this is actually just a Galaxy S6 edge strapped to a knife handle, with a retractable blade on one of the sides of the device.
It’s a pretty silly idea, to be sure. While some folks are wondering what purpose the Galaxy S6 edge actually services (even some reviewers), Samsung is not afraid to poke fun at its own device — even before it starts shipping.
Samsung says the Galaxy Blade edge can cut up to 50% faster than a traditional knife, and if you’re worried about cutting yourself, don’t be. Samsung says the included KNOX software will actually retract that faux blade before it cuts skin — it’s just that advanced. Samsung also says the Blade edge has a “diamond edge blade,” a “thermometer stylus,” and can help you take some amazing photographs of your food, too.
The display is “100% water- and fire-proof,” if you’re curious. Because why not, right?
At the bottom of one of the images, Samsung admits that this is nothing but an April Fools’ Day joke, but that never should have been a surprise to anyone in the first place.
What do you think? Funny or not?
